I purchased two Lumos Fireflies. They work well; however, one of my units has about a third of the battery life as the other for a total of approximately 2-3 hours of operation. I found that to be disappointing, but still workable. Pairing these with a helmet is great though.
Very satisfied with the helmet, but have to subtract one star. Helmet would not pair with app and thus sync with fireflies. Turns out the helmet had to be fully charged, and set to manually update the firmware before properly working with app. Had to try several times to pair the helmet before I had any success. Once firmware was updated it worked as planned. App cannot be used as remote, since my phone will not let it keep the screen always on.
Lumos firefly is a really good product, helping you to be visible on the road and indicating your next move to other. However 3 things need to be improved.
Brake light sensitivity
Distress signal
Firefly battery’s autonomy
La météo ne m’a pas encore permis de mettre ce casque à l’épreuve mais je donnerai un avis plus circonstancié plus tard
I bought an Ultra helmet in October, mainly for a once-a-week commute. By December the handlebar switch unit was unreliable and in January stopped working altogether. I claimed under warranty. My first message was ignored but the second (10 days later) got a really quick response and a new unit was despatched in February. The design of the casing is slightly different so I hope this one is more reliable.
Easy to mount everywhere with good visibility. Most likely good battery time
My initial review of the ebike helmet I purchased was very positive but sadly the remote I purchased to unlock the brake lights is not functioning properly. The remote incorporates an accelorometer which activates a brake light when braking. However it also activates when accelerating which runs the battery down. I emailed customer services but received no response and my follow up email has also been ignored. My first review of the helmet was titled “Time will Tell” and it seems I was right to be cautious.
Can the shield be removed or replaced? If needed.
Also I have the Lumos Ultra what extra remote do I need to activate auto break lights.
The order arrived quickly after I placed my it. Maybe a week.
Opening the package I found the expected great presentation the I have gotten from previous Lumos products. The liner wrapped in paper and a page of instructions. The Winter liner and earmuffs were in the package. The instruction manual said Velcro spots were also included but I did not find them.
Installation was not what I was expecting. I was expecting the unit to slip into the helmet and the ear muffs to attach to the sides of the chin strap.
Instead the Winter Liner replaces the padding in the helmet with the thick liner itself. This required carefully peeling the Velcro sponges from the helmet while not pulling the Velcro spots off (hence the replacement spots that were supposed to be in the package). I was gentle in removing the sponge padding and all the spots remained attached to the helmet. Then the liner was placed in the helmet and after figuring which was the front and back, went into place flawlessly. The chin straps were pulled through a band near my ears and the ear protectors were Velco’ed in place.
The it took me for the first time was maybe 15 minutes and a good 10 minutes of that was figuring out things. I assume in the future it could be done is a snap, providing the Velcro spots remain in place.
The unit is well made. Quality materials. Simple instructions. Easy installation. Perfect comfortable fit and very warm.
I will be keeping the unit, but for my use it is overkill. When riding my head isn’t what gets cold is is my ears. They are what is exposed the most to the cold air. Mind you the Winter Liner does an excellent job of keeping my ears warm, I don’t need the rest of my head wrapped. Ear warmer headbands are enough for my needs.
I wasn’t expecting to need to change the entire fit system when switching from the normal sponge pads to the Winter Liner and then reversing to process when the weather got warmer.
I am sure that for those who live in colder climates this is a ‘Put it in in November, and take it out in May’ situation. For my use in the Pacific Northwest I’ll keep dressing in layers, even my head.
Habe die Lampen als Blinker im Einsatz und sie machen ihre Sache sehr gut. Leider sind sie zu teuer.
I ordered the Lumos Ultra in grey. I did not know that it would take two weeks to ship from China with a very weird shipping agent. I also did not know that Lumos would not reply to my requests for a return. The website is professional-looking but the service is not.
As for the helmet, it is terrible. The lack of sizing means that there is a helmet that fits a very large head, and a ring retention system that squeezes on your head to make up the difference. Even then, the helmet flops side-to-side. I imagine that would be fine for 15-20 minutes at a time but the helmet does not fit like any other helmet you can buy in this price range. It is something like a $30 Wal-Mart helmet.
Really, this is a pair of lights with a helmet attached to them and not a helmet with integrated lights. The lights work well. They are very bright and I think they would be great for commuting and being seen on the roads in low-light situations.
The lights work. The helmet does not. THe customer service is non-existent.
It’s so much fun to ride up the night now. The lights work synchronized. With the helmet lights and also potentially with other riders. There is a wireless application for your smart phone that makes everything work together beautifully. It’s a little bit different, I wouldn’t say complex because it’s simple. It’s just something that requires a little bit of read the instructions before you try to do it type thing lol. The way it’s a super bright. The helmet is very reliable and I’ve got the big firefly lights the mini light attached to my whip antenna, integrated turn signals and it all flashes like a Christmas tree on the Fourth of July!. I had somebody tell me how far away they could see me coming and that made me very happy because I raced my wheelchairs and people just aren’t looking for a guy by himself racing his wheelchair up and down the street maximum visibility is the key. The battery life on the helmet is excellent and there are many different flash patterns that cover everything from a basic headlight for night riding to a daytime flash attention getting light. The firefly lights are very versatile and there are amazingly reasonably priced. Each light is $50 but considering they can operate interchangeably as a headlight side light tail light or turn signal I think they’re wonderfully inventive., and such great safe fun! I had people stop me on the street and ask where they could get one of the helmets. And I come back and grab the fireflies that I’ve got matched up with it and that creates even more excitement. I’ve got the whole outfit matched up with my action camera set for extra fun. I also have a real bright auxiliary helmet light that is attached to my new ultra helmet with in Action camera mount. This used to be my primary light, but the battery runs down too fast so the combination is a lot of fun and I can always take the white off the outside of the helmet and interchange it with a GoPro action camera. If I’ve seen this helmet before I bought the exterior lights I probably would’ve just stuck with the Lumos products. That all around I have no regrets. I almost got ran over by a bus before I put these lights on my recumbent cycle. I lay on my back and operate that thing with my arms and my backside is about 6 inches off the ground even when I’m in the bike lane people are not looking for something that looks like an oversize roller-skate With a person laying on the back LMAO . It almost looks like a runway stretcher! I’ll take some pictures of all the way it’s working together with the helmet on my recumbent. The accessory turn signal switch that’s available at a modest extra price is worth the money because it helps integrate all the lights together with the helmet and as a bonus, it has a sensor That activates a brake light for you. The turn signals even make a tone to remind you to turn them off after you make your turn. I am a space systems integration engineer by trade and this is some exceptional engineering, especially for a consumer products! Keep up the good work! I will keep adding to my collection with my next check. Shine light everybody you’ll never regret it.
Overall, the helmet is ideal for daily commuters. The front and rear lights are bright and easily visible, and the addition of the turn signals on the front of the helmet is a huge improvement. Cars and others can see your signaling from the front, which helps a lot for others knowing what you’re doing on the road. Add-ons, like the insulated insert for cold weather (it covers the ears) are easy to use and function well. The helmet fits snug and is adjustable with MIPS, is lightweight, and well-constructed. Biggest con, based on my use so far, is the visor shield on the front. It pulls down for front turn signals to be most visible to others and will prevent anything big from hitting your eyes, but the visor is distracting. It pulls down only so far and my eyes, at least, are almost at the same level of the bottom of the visor, which impedes visibility some. The cutout for the nose is distracting. If you adjust the helmet down, it temporarily solves that issue, but it still fits awkwardly and visibility is not completely clear. Unfortunately, the visor becomes an issue that, if removed or adjusted, would allow for unimpaired viewing. I suggest getting those front turn signals on the helmet and off of the visor, while letting riders choose their eye protection.
So easy too setup and pair with rear light the bake function other following riders is really good hopefully it works to warn car drivers 🤔
Really bad communication. No answer on my mail to you since weeks
Had to send back the light, the procedure in the first place is very awkward. First you have to get in touch with the support, after the the lights were sent back there were no refunds and no answers from the customer support. Very bad shopping experience here.
As I travel with several bikes, I also need several remote mounts. The bayonet is well constructed, I hope it doesn't wear out so quickly and I can use it for a long time.
To the design department:
I would have rather designed a magnetic mount with a neodymium magnet instead of the bayonet. Maybe that's a better alternative?
Thank you for the well thought-out components
The “Firefly Mini” can be easily mounted/attached to the bike or backpack thanks to the mounting aids supplied.
I ride 36 km a day and switch it on in the morning and evening. The battery lasts for 4 days, which is sufficient and good. Pairing with another light and the helmet is easy using the perfectly programmed app.
I am very satisfied - finally a really good product that is 100% worth the money. Thank you LUMOS team!
Absolute easy process from ordering to receiving it.
Each single step in processing the order and delivery was every time transparent and traceable.
The helmet itself is a blast, in fitting and function, including the App.
