Multi-directionalImpactProtectionSystem
MIPS stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System. It is a low friction layer beneath the helmet padding which reduces the rotational forces transmitted to the brain during an impact by enabling a relative motion between the head and the helmet.
Statistics show that when crashes happen, it’s most common for bikers to fall at an angle, compared to a linear fall. MIPS helmets are designed to to protect your brain from an angled impact.Falling at an angle creates rotational forces which may be transmitted to your brain and result in brain injuries. MIPS can reduce the rotational motion as well as the risk of brain damage.
The core of the MIPS Brain Protection System (BPS) is a low friction layer that allows the head to move 10-15 mm relative the helmet in all directions and redirects energies and forces otherwise transferred to the brain.
