I remember the kickstarter and was thrilled to see it come to reality on the bigger market. I usually spend around at most $80 on a helmet in the past. But splurging with this one was well worth it. Fits like no other helmet I’ve owned. Made really well. Easy to use. The lights are and features are incredible. I got the MiPS version and feel even more comfortable and safe. Amazing design looks good and functional above all else. Highly recommend.. I’ll probably get another one in a few months to have A different color.

Excellent Upgrade
The improved battery life is significant. It eliminates the need to carry and charge the helmet for all rides longer than 2 hours. The handlebar left/right remote has not needed to be recharged since I’ve received it. The older remote signal device required weekly recharging. Nice change!!!!!!! Actual light visibility changes are hard to determine.Thank you for the upgrades. I’m a very serious 71 year old biking enthusiast. Your upgrades and changes to your products are exciting as well as comforting to me. I’m on an 8k goal this year.

May have saved my life!
I had an accident on my bicycle a few weeks ago and ended up with a punctured lung, five broken ribs, assorted scrapes and bruises and a chunk missing from my Lumos helmet. But my head was unharmed - no injury to my head whatsoever. I bought the MIPS version, and I think that my be why my neck didn't even hurt the next day.Thank you, Lumos, for this excellent product. It did its job brilliantly and I will be replacing it with another Lumos helmet.
Adjustment and fit are fantastic. One of the biggest design wins is having the lights permanently built into the helmet—it is a huge relief not having to worry about packing, charging, or mounting separate lights every time I head out.
Do I feel seen? It is honestly hard to judge from the rider's perspective, but the normal high-level mode seems adequate for everyday visibility. On the other hand, the boost power combined with blink modes are impressively bright—almost too bright for dim conditions, though great when you really need to stand out. (Note: I haven't used the remote or the turn signals.)
The Little Things: Areas for Improvement
While the core experience is great, there are a few minor design details I would change that removed the one star from the review:
The Buckle: The original buckle is stiff to open and feels cheap. I ended up replacing mine because I've simply gotten used to a smoother, different style of buckle.
The Power Button: After two weeks of daily use, I still struggle to find it. Located behind the head, there are little to no tactile cues to help your fingers locate it—you basically just grope around and press until you feel a button give way.
Battery Status: I haven't figured out any way to check the charge level other than opening the mobile app. It would be a quality-of-life improvement to add a configuration setting—for instance, having the helmet emit a specific number of audio beeps corresponding to the battery percentage when powering down.

The helmet saved my life
The helmet is a replacement for the exact same model which protected me in an accident. The helmet got crashed, my head suffered not even the tiniest scratch, no concussion, nothing. I am super grateful and reordered immediately. The helmet does not only offer (now proven) crash protection, it also makes you visible - accident prevention. And it is super comfy. 10 stars!

Improvement over kickstart, but one major flaw
The lights seem brighter and the pattern more “obtrusive”, which is a good thing. However, the loss of the front turn signal is a MAJOR issue. I do a great deal of suburban riding. When I come up to a turn I now have to go back to hand signals if a car is approaching.

Yes. Every Lumos Ultra comes with the Lumos Remote Lite, a wireless handlebar remote for the turn signals.
How do I use the turn signals?
Use the included Remote Lite, the upgraded Lumos Remote, or the Lumos App on your phone or Apple Watch.
Does it have brake lights?
Not by default. Add the Lumos Remote (sold separately) to turn on automatic brake lights.
How does it charge, and how long does the battery last?
It charges with the included USB-C cable in about 3 hours. One charge lasts 4–10 hours depending on the light mode.
Should I choose Mips or Standard?
Both meet the CPSC and EN 1078 safety standards. Mips adds a low-friction layer designed to help reduce rotational forces from certain angled impacts. Sizes S and XL come in Mips only.
Can I ride in the rain?
Yes. Lumos Ultra is IPX6 rated for riding in the rain.
